Below we outline the steps for teens to obtain their provisional driver's license.
#1 Eligibility
Parents must first become a "parent taught instructor".

#2 Apply for Parent Instructor Authorization
A parent must apply to be an instructor. Pay the fee and download the Parent Taught Packet.
#3 Online Course Instruction- Order You Texan Driver Course
Your teen completes the required 32 hour online course here with Texan Driver. Upon completion, we issue you a certificate - DE-964.
Note- after the first 6 hours of instruction your teen can take the test. But all 32 hours must be completed before taking the driver exam at the TxDMV.

#4 Get the Learner Permit
Take the certificate to your local Texas DPS office to obtain your Learner's Permit..
#5 Drive
Equipped with their Learner's permit, the supplied curriculum materials and log sheets, spend time with your teen behind the wheel.
#6 Review the Handbook
Have your teen study the Texas Driver Handbook.
#7 Watch the required video
Within 90 days of taking the skills test, your student needs to watch a mandatory 2-hour video: Impact Teen Driver Program
#8 Schedule Your DMV Appointment
Take the written and driving test at your DMV to secure your provisional license.
